Flaunt Your Skin!
Thank you for choosing Waxology! We hope to make your experience as pleasant as hair removal can be.
Keeping these tips in mind will help in making your visits as comfortable and painless as possible. However, please keep in mind that it is impossible to predict how any individual’s skin will react even if all precautions are taken. To fully experience the benefits of waxing, it is important to maintain the schedule recommended by our Experts!
Before Waxing
-
Allow 2 or more weeks of hair growth before your visit.
-
Arrive to your appointment freshly showered.
-
Do not apply self-tanner, moisturizer, or any abrasive body or facial scrubs.
-
We recommend wearing loose fitting clothes to your appointment, especially for services in the bikini area.
-
Try to limit caffeine intake as it can stimulate the nervous system.
-
Avoid taking pain medications, like Advil or Tylenol, as it can lead to adverse reactions including, but not limited to, thinning of the skin, dehydration, and bruising.
-
For services in the bikini area, attempt to schedule your appointment within the first 2 weeks after your cycle has ended (this is the time that you are less sensitive). However, you can receive a service during your cycle if you are able to wear a tampon; just anticipate additional sensitivity.
-
Certain products and medications can prevent us from providing hair removal services. These products include and are not limited to: Accutane, Retin-A, Glycolic Acid, Alpha Hydroxyl Acid, Taxorac, Avage, Differin, Strivectin, Renova, Proactiv, Avita, Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid.
Post Waxing
FIRST 24 – 48 HOURS AFTER WAXING:

Continue to wear loose fitting clothing. After a service in the bikini area specifically, do not wear underwear, if possible.
-
Do not take hot showers or soak in a bath.

-
Do not go swimming (pools, lakes, oceans, hot tubs, etc.)
CONTINUED HOME CARE FOLLOWING WAXING SERVICE
-

-
24-48 hours after you service, moisturize you skin daily with a light oil (i.e. olive, coconut, or sunflower oil).
**An Ingrown Lotion in available at the Waxcellence Wax Lounge which helps in preventing in-grown hair. This lotion also has AHA’s (Alpha Hyaluronic Acids) which helps in keeping the skin toned and smooth in between the services. -
48-72 hours after the service, begin to exfoliate your skin 3-5 times per week with a sugar or salt scrub.
**You can choose from a range of sugar scrubs available at the Waxcellence Wax Lounge. -
Be sure to wear cotton, natural, or organic fabrics around the area where hair was removed, if possible.
Potential Risks and Tips to Manage Them

1) INGROWN HAIR
As hair begins to grow back, individual hair may become trapped under the skin, resulting in a small, red bump.
If you experience ingrown hair, revisit our “After Waxing Tips” and attempt to follow them as closely as possible. You may also ask your Wax Artist for recommended products.

2) BLEMISHES
Similar to blemishes on other parts of the body, people with sensitive skin types may develop blemishes in areas that have been waxed.
If you experience blemishing, revisit our “After Waxing Tips” and attempt to follow them as closely as possible. You may also ask your Wax Artist for recommended products.

3) SKIN LIFTING
Certain people will experience skin lifting. This is when a layer of dry, sensitive skin gets removed along with the hair.
If you experience skin lifting, the best treatment is to leave the skin in that area alone. Do not apply any lotions, creams, powders, or oils (E.g. Neosporin, baby powder, etc.) to the area. When washing, do not use soap in that area, just water. Do not peel the skin around that area.

4) BRUISING
Bruising is a possibility for people with very sensitive skin types.
If you experience bruising, do icing on the area and wait for it to heal naturally.

5) INFECTION
Though very rare, infection is a possibility after waxing. This is because removing the hair leaves your pores open for approximately 2 days, as your hair follicles repair themselves. The skin is therefore more vulnerable during this time.
If you believe an area has become infected, consult your doctor.
